BROKEN PROMISES LEAVE LALOR RESIDENTS IN THE LURCH ON THE NBN

Federal Member for Lalor Joanne Ryan today took Shadow Minister for Communications Jason Clare on a tour of the parts of her electorate that have poor internet service and are still no clearer on when Malcolm Turnbull’s second rate NBN will get to them.

Rubbing salt into the wound, these residents and businesses will likely miss out on the real NBN and will instead have to rely on a second rate old copper system.

A recent electorate wide survey showed deep concerns about existing broadband services, new estates relying on expensive wireless only provision and a lack of ports in other areas meaning no ADSL access.

The Abbott Government has not just broken the promises they made on education, health and pensions. They have also broken their promises on the NBN.

Before the election Tony Abbott promised that all Lalor residents would have access to the NBN by 2016. However since the election not a single additional home in Lalor has been put on the rollout map. Not one.

Under Labor Lalor would have got the super-fast fibre-to-the-premises NBN. 61,000 homes and businesses in Lalor were included in Labor’s three year rollout plan. Under the Coalition residents of Lalor have no idea when the NBN will reach them.

Tony Abbott is creating two classes of people - those that will get the real NBN and those that won't.

That includes the people of Wyndham Vale. Until last month they were on the NBN rollout map to get the super-fast fibre-to-the-premises NBN. Last month, 2400 residents of Wyndham Vale were ripped off the map by Malcolm Turnbull and now they have no idea when the NBN will be rolled out in their area.

Jason Clare and Joanne Ryan will hold a public forum in Point Cook tonight to hear first-hand from residents about the impact Tony Abbott and Malcolm Turnbull’s broken promises will have on them.
