Australians voted for action on climate change and the Albanese Labor Government is delivering. We're also protecting more of our natural world- doing more than ever to protect our environment.
Investing in healthier water ways in Wyndham
We’ve delivered $1 million for Wyndham healthier waterways project. The project upgrades 5 stormwater wetlands, install gross pollutant traps, extend wetland areas, and plant vegetation to improve water quality. Works will be undertaken on wetlands along the Werribee River and Lollypop Creek, which in turn flow to Port Phillip Bay
Supporting Werribee South’s farmers
75% of Australia’s lettuces come from Werribee South and farmers in the Werribee Irrigation District are facing an increasingly drier climate.
That’s why the Federal Government deliver $10.9 million in the Werribee Irrigation District Modernisation.
The new pipeline provides improved flow control and operation. It also creates better water service levels to support on-farm productivity.
With the completion of the Stages 4 and 5, the region will be able to access an extra 1,350 megalitres of water per year through water savings.
Across all 5 stages of the Werribee Irrigation District Modernisation, approximately 5,000 megalitres of water savings have been generated. A portion of this has been committed to enhance local irrigation and the health of the Werribee River.
Construction on Stage 4 was completed in September 2023 and Stage 5 was completed in December 2024.
Cheaper home batteries
A re-elected Albanese Labor Government will make batteries cheaper, slashing energy bills for households, small businesses and community facilities by up to 90 per cent.
We will roll out our $2.3 billion Cheaper Home Batteries Program from 1 July 2025 reducing the cost of a typical installed battery by 30 per cent – with over one million new batteries expected by 2030.
Analysis by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water shows a household with existing rooftop solar could save up to $1,100 off their power bill every year, and a household installing a new solar and a battery system could save up to $2,300 a year – up to 90 per cent of a typical family electricity bill.
This will help households reduce reliance on the grid – and take back control of their power bill.
Upgrades for Werribee’s Outdoor Pool
Labor’s Community Energy Upgrade Fund will invest $1.25 million for the installation of electric heat pumps at Werribee Outdoor Pool and the decommissioning of the existing gas boilers. This installation aims to provide a sustainable and cost-effective heating solution for the aquatic facility, reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions. The project will enhance the comfort and usability of the facility while promoting environmental sustainability.
Approved a record number of renewable energy projects
Already, Labor has approved enough renewable energy to power more than 10 million homes. A re-elected Albanese Labor Government will deliver more cheap, clean reliable renewable energy to get our energy grid to 82% renewables by 2030.
We will also unlock $8 billion of additional investment in renewable energy and low emissions technologies through a $2 billion expansion of the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.
Protecting threatened species and conserving habitat
We’re cracking down on feral animals and weeds, while protecting over 95 million hectares of additional land and sea.
Under Labor, we now protect 52% of our Oceans and have tripled the size of the Macquarie Island Marine Park (the biggest act of environmental conservation anywhere in the world in 2023).
Protected our Reef
We’re investing $1.2 billion to save the Great Barrier Reef – and we’ve kept it off the World Heritage ‘In Danger’ list as a result.
Enshrined emissions reductions targets in law
After a decade of denial and delay under the Liberals, Labor set the target of net zero emissions by 2050 into law.
Rescuing the Murray-Darling
Labor is delivering over 100 times more additional environmental water in one term than the previous Coalition Government delivered in a decade to stop our river dying.
