National Anti-Corruption Commission:
We promised we’d deliver an independent, transparent and powerful body that will look into serious and systemic corruption at the national level.
And we’ve delivered on that promise with the National Anti-Corruption Commission.
The NACC makes its own decisions on what to investigate, including referrals from whistleblowers and complaints from the public.
It can investigate corrupt conduct right across the Commonwealth public sector - and may look into things that happened before it was created.
It will always be at arm’s length from the government of the day.
Royal Commission into Robodebt:
People had their lives ruined by the former government’s Robodebt scheme. It was illegal, it was cruel, and it was harmful.
That’s why we held a Royal Commission into Robodebt, and why we wiped active Robodebt cases for almost 200,000 Australians.
Something like this can never, ever happen again.
Abolishing the Administrative Appeals Tribunal:
The AAT’s public standing had been irreversibly damaged as a result of the actions of the former government.
With the new Administrative Review Tribunal we have implemented a transparent and merit-based appointments process to ensure the new Tribunal is efficient, accessible, independent and fair.
