Ison Road Project to Open in September
Locals in Melbourne’s west will soon spend less time in traffic and more time getting where they need to go.
The Ison Road Project will open in September 2026 – three months ahead of schedule.
A new overpass across the Melbourne–Geelong rail line will link to a 1.3 kilometre, four-lane road connecting Ison Road to Geelong Road and the Princes Freeway interchange at Werribee.
The project will improve journey reliability, reduce congestion and boost safety by taking traffic off local roads.
More than 29,000 daily journeys are expected to use the new link by 2036, helping meet the needs of Melbourne’s fast-growing west.
New walking and cycling paths will run along the overpass and underneath the bridge, with additional connections along the extension to Geelong Road.
While the road will open in September, finishing works including landscaping, lighting and final asphalting will continue through to the end of 2026.
The Ison Road Project is jointly, funded by the Australian and Victorian Governments, and Wyndham City Council.
Once open, the project will support the removal of the nearby Galvin Road level crossing, improving safety for the 10,350 vehicles that use it each day.
The Ison Road Project will improve access to jobs and services, while making it safer and easier for locals to walk, cycle and drive.
