Labor to Build Soldiers Reserve’s Future

A re-elected Albanese Labor Government will invest $5 million to create a state-of-the-art Soldiers Reserve Pavilion in Werribee, ensuring it continues to serve as a hub for sports and community activities in Wyndham.

Federal Labor Member for Lalor, Joanne Ryan, has announced this election commitment would go towards providing versatile spaces for sporting events, fitness classes, and community meetings, ensuring the facility can support the growing needs of Wyndham's expanding community.

A re-elected Albanese Labor Government would partner with Wyndham City Council, the Werribee Districts Football Club, and the Werribee Junior Cricket Club to redevelop the pavilion.

Soldiers Reserve is already home to the powerhouse of the Western Football Netball League, Werribee Districts Football Club as well as the Werribee Junior Cricket Club. This upgrade will cement the pavilion as the beating heart of sport in the centre of Werribee.

The project will also provide a much-needed boost for women’s sport, which is rapidly growing in popularity. The Werribee Junior Cricket Club has seen a surge in female participation, with many young girls from emerging communities now representing the club in regional and state competitions.

The upgraded pavilion will feature flexible changerooms, allowing the space to be divided and used by multiple teams simultaneously. This will ensure that more local clubs can access the facility and support the growing needs of Wyndham’s expanding community.

These enhancements will increase participation in sports and community events, encouraging more women to get involved in the local sporting scene.

This investment would also enable significant improvements to car parking, making it easier for locals to enjoy their Saturday afternoons at the footy.

This $5 million commitment is a win for both Wyndham’s sporting community and its growing number of female athletes, offering better facilities and more opportunities for everyone.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.
