LABOR TO UPGRADE ACCESS TO THE HOPPERS CROSSING GURDWARA

Federal Member for Lalor, Joanne Ryan, announced that a re-elected Albanese Labor Government will invest $45,000 to upgrade access to the Hoppers Crossing Gurdwara ensuring that those accessing this religious site can do so safely.

This election commitment will support concreting of the driveway and carpark, partnering with Sikh leaders at the Gurdwara to provide safe access and use of the grounds connected to this temple.

Members of the Hoppers Crossing Gurdwara remain committed to serving the community, through providing language classes and martial arts classes to Sikh children, and by allowing external Sikh organisations to access the site to run a community kitchen.

This upgrade has been a priority for some time now and will be well received by locals who attend the site, especially for prayer, reflection and celebration. The Hoppers Crossing Gurdwara remains a central place of worship and gathering for the local Sikh community. This is an investment in the local Sikh community, which will build Wyndham’s future.

Wyndham is home to one of the most multicultural, multifaith and multilingual communities. This upgrade will enable the Gurdwara to remain at the heart of Lalor’s diverse community.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.

Quotes attributable to Joanne Ryan MP:

“This grant will support the community from across Wyndham to safely access a site used not only for worship, but for community activity and service to others.

Our South Asian community are always at the forefront of community service – whether it be through the provision of meals or supporting those in need.

The local Sikh community expressed their concerns about the unsafe nature of the Gurdwara’s driveway and carpark, only a Labor government will support the important cultural infrastructure that our community needs.”
