MAKE IT EASIER TO SEE A DOCTOR IN WYNDHAM

An Albanese Labor Government will strengthen Medicare and make it easier to see a doctor in Wyndham.

A Labor Government will make Wyndham a Distribution Priority Area, recognising the shortage of medical practitioners locally. Distribution Priority Area (DPA) identifies areas where people don’t have enough access to doctors, based on the needs of the community.

It has never been harder to see a doctor locally. In 2019, Scott Morrison’s Government made cuts that meant some regions of Australia – including Wyndham - are now banned from hosting the overseas trained doctors and doctors in the bonded medical program that once served their communities.

This has meant local GP practices are closing or sitting empty because they can’t find GPs, yet they’re told by the Morrison Government they can’t recruit doctors the same way they used to. Some local clinics have reported a loss of nearly 40% of their doctors available.

This just part of Labor’s plans to strengthen Medicare and making it easier to see the doctor locally and follows on from Labor’s plan to deliver a Medicare Urgent Care Clinic in Lalor.

Cutting Medicare is in the Liberals’ DNA. You can never trust the Liberals on Medicare.

Labor built Medicare and we will always protect it.
